First, individuals from the Greater Cincinnati in Ohio own the Bhutanese Community. So, they fund their ownership to support the community.  Charity Community Building and Business Community Development for the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati focus on integrating Bhutanese Americans into a support system meant to build financial support from individuals, businesses, and local well-wishers while preserving their rich cultural heritage. It involves various approaches to engaging the community effectively and ensuring sustainable development. On a micro level, the charity community building and business community development fund the treasury for the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati.  From the operation standpoint, this can be subcategorized into two.

4.1. Charity Community Building: Five-member committee:

Charity Community Building for the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati involves initiatives to strengthen and empower the Bhutanese community individuals. This approach ensures that cultural values are preserved while members effectively integrate into the self-support system.

4.2. Business Community Development: Five-Member Committee:

Business Community Development focuses on bringing business-level connections and a support system that engages businesses from Greater Cincinnati. This approach ensures that businesses and entrepreneurs are a part of the community’s growth and support system.

4.3. Definition and Objectives

Charity Community Building and Business Community Development for the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati refers to efforts promoting community unity, resilience, and sustainability through participation and voluntary contributions. This involves developing programs and services that reflect the community’s cultural, social, and economic needs. The core objective is to foster engagement and inclusiveness, enabling BCC to contribute positively to society while maintaining its cultural heritage and celebrating community diversity. Such initiatives emphasize collective action, advocating for social justice, economic empowerment, community cohesion, community education, and youth leadership development.

4.4 Role of the Board of Directors.

Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati’s Board of Directors is critical in supporting underrepresented community members by providing resources, advocacy, entertainment, and education. The BOD addresses social and economic disparities, promotes leadership and capacity building, and offers vital services such as healthcare collaborations, educational collaborations, and job placement initiatives in partnerships with professional and institutional providers. Bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds enhances social networks and promotes mutual understanding between the communities and the larger society. Charity Community Building surrogates the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati by providing funding, resources, and expertise. They help identify community needs, foster strategic partnerships, and invest in programs that drive the community’s growth.

4.5. Council Formation:

The Charity Community Build & Business Community Development Council shall have 11 members. The Treasurer of the BOD at BCC will nominate five volunteers in consultation with the Chairman of the Board of Directors. The five-member team will oversee the Charity Community Building side, and another five volunteers will oversee the business Development side. The members will be selected based on:

  • Their understanding of the Charity Community Building for the Bhutanese Community.
    • They have knowledge of the Bhutanese Community, its diversity, and several other aspects of the community.
    • Connection to the community.
    • Knowledge of Finance.

The scope of Charity Community Building and Business Community Development is individual. The treasurer shall develop the engagement strategies and bring any level of engagement for the Chairman and the members of the Board of Directors. It focuses on small, ongoing contributions from individuals and businesses in the community, such as monthly or annual contributions.

Charity community building and Business community Development can also be exercised for events via one-time donations and sponsorships. These focus activities engage the community on several fronts and capacities. The community will benefit from them, including, but not limited to, individual support, recommendations for personal recognition, resource sharing, and support for BCC activities and programs.

The main goal is that this community shall contribute to community activities – the funds will run community-based activities. This will focus on four main programs in the community:

  1. BCC Annual Gala,
  2. BCC Students Recognition.
  3. BCC Community Connection.
  4. BCC Ongoing Need-Based Resourcing:

The focus is to create seed money to bring futuristic programs. The first two will primarily focus on the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati, and the third is open connection building for all professionals and well-wishers in Greater Cincinnati. The third is an exclusive and invited program where BCC will invite locals from greater Cincinnati who are not Bhutanese – to demonstrate BCC talents, diversities, heritages, foods, and music and run a fundraising campaign. The five-member team will continually work on establishing connections and reconnections. Building the Connection of the Bhutanese Community individually and incentivizing the connections for financial health building of the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati. Fourth, it focuses on providing need-based support for the community.

4.6 Strategies for Effective Community Building

Effective charity and business community-building and development strategies include fostering collaboration among community members and community-based businesses, providing leadership development programs, and implementing culturally relevant services. Engaging community leaders, community-based businesses, and stakeholders in decision-making processes also enhances trust and ownership. BOD/BCC may utilize technology and media to increase community outreach and promote cultural awareness.

4.7 Programs and Activities:

The Board of Directors of the Bhutanese Community shall design the activities, events, and programs in collaboration with other stakeholders to bring education, awareness, entertainment, and support, mainly targeting the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati. This shall supply the wealth of collective energy backed by the spirit of a self-support system. The second goal of the Charity Community Building is to bring engagement and support from the community.

4.8 Role of the Treasurer and Volunteer Selection

The Treasurer is essential in coordinating Charity Community Building by overseeing financial health, managing budgets, and supporting strategic planning. The Treasurer collaborates with the BOD and other Council Heads to ensure resources align with BCC’s goals. Volunteer selection involves choosing individuals who deeply understand the community’s needs and financial management. Selected volunteers should have a strong connection with the community, a comprehensive knowledge of Bhutanese culture, and expertise in finance. No volunteer can participate in two councils at the same time.

4.9 Scope and Activities

Focusing on micro-level contributions means mobilizing the community to provide consistent yet manageable financial support, continuously strengthening community ties and financial stability. Such efforts can extend to hosting events like the BCC Annual Gala, which raises funds and serves as a cultural celebration showcasing Bhutanese heritage. Other activities like the BCC Student Recognition and BCC Connections emphasize recognizing local talent and building networks among Bhutanese and broader Cincinnati communities.

4.10 Benefits and Goals

Participating in Charity community-building and Business Community Development initiatives offers numerous benefits, including personal recognition and access to community resources. It also provides a platform for cultural exchange and enhances individual standing within the community. This is also an opportunity to be a part of the community by sharing resources, talents, and funds. The primary goal is to generate seed money for future programs, ensuring the continued development of community-focused activities. By engaging local professionals and other community members, BCC aims to foster inclusiveness and cultural diversity.

  • Cataloging and Record Keeping:

The coordinator keeps abreast of the records of the individuals and businesses participating in the business community. An individual contributing $10,000 and a business contributing $25,000 shall be recognized as a permanent member of the Advisory Council and will be offered a public honor bestowed with the BCC Patron award at the annual BCC Gala. All donations and contributions to BCC are tax-exempt.

4.12 Ongoing Business Conduct:

The Council meets on an ongoing basis as agreed by the individual members of the community. The coordinator submits monthly reports before the first of the month.  BOD shall provide the necessary guidance, support, reviews, and corrective action based on the council’s needs.
